Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs)

Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs) are ‘one-stop shops’ designed to provide an easier and altogether better patient experience. CDCs have many diagnostic facilities and services in one place, which means you may be able to have many diagnostic procedures in one appointment and at one site.

You can have many different tests at CDCs, including x-rays, blood tests, CT and MRI scans, and ultrasound scans. They also offer other services such as breast screening, dermatology clinics, and audiology services.

UHDB has three CDCs across Derbyshire and Staffordshire, providing a range of tests closer to your home and community. Our CDC sites are located at:

  • Florence Nightingale Community Hospital in Derby
  • Ilkeston Community Hospital
  • Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital in Tamworth

There are two further CDC sites located elsewhere in Derbyshire, which are operated by Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (CRH) and Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust (DCHS):

  • Walton Hospital in Chesterfield
  • Whitworth Community Hospital in Matlock

You can find out more about the services available at the CDCs in Chesterfield and Matlock on the CRH website (opens in new window) >

Can I choose to have my appointment at a CDC site?

The tests avaliable at CDCs are accessed once you have been referred by either your GP, or by a consultant at a hospital.

When you are referred for a test or scan, your referring clinician will be able to give you the option as to where to have your test. You can request for this to be book at a CDC if the service is available and meets your ongoing care needs.

Blood tests

If you have been given a blood test request form, you can book your test at any CDC or hospital based on your own preference.

You can book blood tests across all UHDB sites, including our CDCs, via Swiftqueue (opens in new window) >

Please note: you will need to create an account to access the Swiftqueue booking system.
