Tribute to Mr Sikandar Khwaja
We are sorry to share the sad news that Mr Sikandar Khwaja, Consultant Urologist at Queen’s Hospital Burton, has passed away.
Mr Khwaja joined the Department of Urology at Queen’s Hospital Burton in 1999 and after quickly progressing within the team, has been a consultant at UHDB for 18 years. He has been described as instrumental in shaping the department in many ways and he had a particular interest in endourology for stones and andrology.
Mr Khwaja was much loved member of the UHDB family, especially at Queen’s Hospital Burton where he was mostly based. He will be fondly remembered by colleagues from the wards, theatres and the urology unit, which saw him initially based at the Belvedere Centre and then at the new Treatment Centre extension.
His colleagues in the urology unit saw Mr Khwaja as a friend and a loving colleague and have shared that he will be remembered for his dry sense of humour. They said: “He always used to find time in his busy schedule to stop and chat with the staff during his tea breaks and there was the endless mystery of “vanishing cups”. We will all miss Sikandar.”
Outside of work, he was a keen badminton player and set up a local club with colleagues and friends. Faith and family were very important to Mr Khwaja and he was a devout Muslim.
