Combined Daycase Unit (CDU)

The CDU offers treatments for patients with cancers or blood disorders. Patients are not admitted overnight but seen on the same day.

Many patients that visit the CDU make frequent visits to the unit for regular chemotherapy treatment for solid tumours, leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma or non-malignant haematological conditions (blood disorders and diseases).

The unit is divided into a triage area, and a clinic area where doctors see patients in scheduled appointments. The unit is able to treat patients for a number of treatments, including:

  • Blood transfusions
  • Chemotherapy
  • Iron infusions
  • Procedures such as bone marrow aspiration, venesection and peripheral insertion of central catheters (PICC)
  • Targeted therapies
  • Triage for unwell patients receiving current treatment under the care of a consultant oncologist or haematologist
