Our research teams

Here at UHDB, Research & Development (R&D) have a team of clinical and non-clinical staff working across a range of disciplines available to support a variety of research.

We are happy to work with both patients and sponsors to deliver the best research experience we can.

Our clinical research teams are here to provide:

  • support with set-up of studies
  • delivery and recruitment into studies by clinical nurses/practitioners/midwives
  • research pharmacy services
  • promotion of research across the Trust

Also, as a Sponsor and Derby Clinical Trials Support Unit (DCTSU), we collaborate across the region, nationally and internationally to deliver innovative research. Having an embedded clinical trials support unit allows us to take a leading role in high profile research.

Our research teams are here to support with:

  • funding applications
  • literature searches
  • study design
  • IRAS submissions, including regulatory approvals
  • contract management
  • trial management
  • statistical services
  • data management services
  • patient and public involvement and engagement (PPI/E)

Research support departments

Research support departments are teams within the Trust that work closely with R&D during both the set-up of trials and during ongoing management where additional elements in the trial protocol are required, such as x-rays, blood tests and ECGs. Research support departments include Radiology, Clinical Measurements, Pathology, Microbiology and Clinical Engineering.

Through this collaboration research support departments help UHDB realise its vision to be a beacon of the NHS, delivering 21st century healthcare.
