Cardiology (heart) at Royal Derby Hospital
The Heart Centre at Royal Derby Hospital is one of the UK’s largest non-surgical cardiology centres, performing over 1000 percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures annually and implanting complex cardiac devices (pacemakers, biventricular pacemakers and defibrillators).
There is a 24/7 service for cardiac emergencies including Primary PCI for acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). A full range of non-invasive tests are offered by our British Society of Echocardiography accredited department. There is an expanding cardiac imaging department with cardiac CT and MRI.
Cardiology wards include the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and Ward 408 Cardiology.
In addition to general outpatient services, there is a dedicated heart failure clinic and ambulatory heart failure unit.
A range of specialist clinics are offered including Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic and Adult Congenital Cardiology clinics with colleagues from Glenfield hospital, Leicester.
We engage actively with clinical trial research.
