Learning Disability and Neurodiversity

The Learning Disability and Neurodiversity team provide support for people with a learning disability and/or neurodiverse conditions during their visit to our hospitals.

The team will advise reasonable adjustments to staff, to ensure we are delivering a positive hospital experience and accommodating to all our patient's needs.

Patients with a learning disability and/or neurodiverse condition can access support with planning admission, treatment and discharge, and be provided with specialist advise and guidance on reasonable adjustments, to ensure they have fair access and outcomes throughout their care.

Support during a hospital visit or stay for patients, parents and carers

The Learning Disability and Neurodiversity team can provide support during hospital appointments and arrange for reasonable adjustment to be put in place before your appointment.

The team can support with:        

  • outpatient appointments
  • emergency admissions
  • planned admissions
  • planned procedures/surgical operation
  • reasonable adjustments
  • communication and understanding
  • open visiting
  • Support and contact with the team for open communication with the ward
  • point of contact
  • provision to support overnight stay if required
  • oversee reasonable adjustments
