Trust appoints Executive Chief Operating Officer

The Trust is pleased to announce today (12 June) that Andrew Hall has been appointed as substantive Executive Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Andrew took up the interim COO position in August last year. Across his 10+ years at UHDB he has worked in Trust-wide roles focusing on service improvement and hospital operations, as well as several years leading the diagnostic and surgical services as Divisional Director.

The COO is responsible for the effective day-to-day operation of the Trust's hospitals, supporting the delivery of the best quality care and meeting national operational performance standards for areas like A&E, cancer, planned operations, and diagnostics amongst others.

On his appointment, Andrew said: "It’s a huge privilege to undertake the role of Chief Operating Officer permanently at UHDB.

"I have seen a great deal of hard work from our teams since I joined as Interim COO eight months ago, with a real dedication to improve what we deliver for patients across emergency, cancer and elective care.

"We still have much to do, but I remain hugely optimistic and proud that our teams and facilities are capable of providing some of the best care for patients and I look forward to continuing to work alongside them."

Prior to joining UHDB, Andrew worked in senior roles in local government, before joining the NHS where he has worked in the fields of health inequalities, community services, urgent primary care and integrated health and social care.

Chief Executive Stephen Posey said: "I am very pleased to welcome Andrew as a substantive member of our Executive and Board leadership team and to add my congratulations - to the many he has already received - upon his appointment.

"Andrew is known to many of our people and teams having worked for more than a decade at UHDB, and I am sure that his energy, drive and experience will continue to make a marked difference and support us in delivering timely and quality care for our patients."

Andrew takes up the substantive Executive COO position with immediate effect following a competitive recruitment process completing last week.
