From Derbados to Barbados: NICU Healthcare Assistant wins luxury holiday.

A Healthcare Assistant from our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Derby has been chosen to win a dream trip to Barbados.

Louise Bishop found out last week that she had won the holiday after being nominated by a mum who she had helped support on the unit.

Louise said: “I had a message from a mum who I had bonded really well with on the unit. I helped care for her little girl when she was born and she regularly used to send me updates about how they are all doing. Instead of an update on how her little girl was doing, this was a message to say that I was her hero and that she had nominated me for an award to win a holiday.

“It was such a kind gesture. A couple of weeks went by and I got another message from the mum to say do you mind if I call you, it’s urgent. I was panicked at first about what could be the matter, but this phone call was to tell me that I had won the holiday!

“I’m in shock that I have won, I don’t quite believe it – I never win anything!”

The 20 winners have been chosen by a panel of judges, comprising friends of Barbados and including household names such as world-renowned DJ Carl Cox, Michelin Star chef Tom Aikens and actor David Harewood, MBE.

Louise will enjoy the luxury holiday to Barbados next year and is looking forward to taking a well-deserved break to kick back and relax! Well done Louise and thank you for everything you are doing for the NICU babies and their families.
