High-tech lifts and new beds installed at UHDB

A high-tech bed lift has been installed to save vital capacity at Royal Derby Hospital, while a full complement of brand new beds have been installed at two of our community hospitals.

UHDB is the first Trust in the country to utilise the five lifts, which will allow us to store five times the number of beds in the same available space as before.

In total, the Trust now has four lifts that can each stack five standard beds on top of one another, and one lift that can stack four heavy beds atop one another. All of the lifts were installed for the Trust by Medescon Ltd.

Based in the RDH Bed Store, on Level 0, saving this extra space has allowed us to use this area to store valuable stocks of PPE for our patients and staff.

On top of that, our community hospitals in Lichfield and Tamworth have both benefitted from a delivery of brand new beds, that will allow staff to manage pressure ulcers and falls more effectively.

Each of the 75 beds at Samuel Johnson and Sir Robert Peel have been replaced in total - 50 at SJ and 25 at SRP.

Mark Cannell, Clinical Specialist and Equipment Library Manager, said: “Having these high-tech bed lifts available on site at Royal Derby Hospital will allow us to utilise our hospital space much more effectively and free up extra capacity for us to safely store our stocks of valuable PPE.

"Enhancing patient experience is central to everything we do here at UHDB, so we are also delighted to have been able to provide a full complement of brand new beds at Sir Robert Peel and Samuel Johnson Community Hospitals, which will certainly benefit our patients.”
