"They are all worth their weight in gold" Coronavirus survivor thanks hospital staff.

patient being discharged

A 66-year-old patient who spent over a month fighting Coronavirus in hospital has been discharged from Royal Derby Hospital.

Brian Billyeald, from Holbrook in Derby, was admitted on 26 March after suffering COVID-19 symptoms. After two days of being cared for on Ward 402, he was then taken to ICU where he spent three weeks being cared for.

Brian’s condition improved after three weeks on ICU, and he was then transferred to Ward 402, one of our Respiratory wards, on 20 April. Brian was cared for on this ward until he was ready to be discharged on 7 May, after spending a total of 43 days at Royal Derby Hospital.

Brian said; “I’d like to say a very big thank you to all the doctors, nurses, physios and all the other staff who have looked after me. They are all worth their weight in gold.”

Julie, Brian’s Wife, said; “The teams on the wards and the Intensive Care Unit have been fantastic. They have constantly kept me up to date with Brian's progress throughout his time in hospital and I certainly can't thank them all enough.

“It’s been a terrible six weeks, but I have had such fantastic support from our family and friends.”

Brian left the ward with an emotional farewell as the team waved him off with a guard of honour and a round of applause.
