A tribute to Geoff Salt
It is with great sadness we share the news of the death of Geoff Salt, Children's Hospital League of Friends, and volunteer at Royal Derby Hospital.
Geoff started work in NHS Hospital Finance in 1963 and retired in 1999. Geoff became involved with the Children's Hospital League of Friends and it was following a chance remark by a member of the nursing staff at North Street Children’s Hospital, who wondered if the League could perhaps supply drinks of orange juice for the children while they waited for their appointments, that the tea bar was set up.
Since 1996 the Tea Bar has funded over £600,000 of major items throughout the whole of the Children’s Hospital and still remains committed to raising funds to enhance the care of all those attending the Children’s Hospital.
With over forty years of volunteering with the Children’s Hospital League of Friends, Geoff was the longest serving member and was well known throughout the Derbyshire Children’s Hospital and to many others at the Royal Derby Hospital.
Elaine Jarvis, League of Friends Committee Member, said: “Geoff was a wonderful, selfless man, a true friend to so very many. He was always pleasant and friendly, willing to help anyone and definitely up for a chat, especially where Derby County was concerned. To have had him in our lives has been a blessing and privilege and he will be so sadly missed. He was truly the salt of the earth.”
