Dr Magnus Harrison to leave UHDB

Dr Magnus Harrison

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB) has announced that Interim Chief Executive, Dr Magnus Harrison, is to leave the Trust at the end of September to take on a new challenge as Medical Director for a Midlands based company specialising in women’s health and wellbeing. Dr Harrison is the Trust’s Medical Director and has been in the role of Interim Chief Executive since February 2022.

Dr Kathy McLean, Chair at UHDB, said: “I am very grateful to Magnus for his work over the last five months as Interim Chief Executive, and for everything he has done for UHDB as Executive Medical Director."

Magnus will continue in the interim role until Monday 5 September when Stephen Posey joins the Trust as Chief Executive Officer. Find out more about Stephen Posey's appointment as our Chief Executive Officer here >

There will be an overlap of several weeks so that Magnus and Stephen can work together to ensure a smooth transition.

Magnus said: “It’s been a privilege to be Chief Executive and Medical Director and while saying goodbye to the Trust and the health community in Derbyshire and Staffordshire will be difficult, I’m really excited to pursue some of my personal interests and try something a bit different. It feels like the right time after 29 years in the NHS.

“There are still loads of things to do and I will be at UHDB until the end of September making sure we deliver on our big priority of ‘patient’s time’, which includes improving waiting times for emergency and urgent care, cancer and diagnosis treatment and for planned care. I am committed to making sure this remains our focus as it’s why we’re all here, to do the best for our patients.”
