Governance team wins top award for work on Trust merger
University Hospitals of Derby and Burton has received national recognition for our recent merger, with the Trust being the only NHS organisation to be commended at a prestigious awards ceremony.
UHDB’s Governance team managed to take home the ‘Governance Project of the Year’ award at the coveted Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) Awards for the work that went into the creation of the new Trust in July.
The merger has secured general services, including A&E, at Queen’s Hospital Burton, allowed us to develop more specialised services at the Royal Derby Hospital, and helped make best use of the community hospital sites in Derby, Lichfield and Tamworth.
Tosca Fairchild, Director of Governance and Communications at the Trust, said: “It’s massive for the Trust to be shortlisted and then to win this award among such prestigious, blue chip companies, and to be the only NHS organisation to win is absolutely amazing.
“We have been sent so many messages congratulating us, including from our Chairman, John Rivers, and from Dame Gill Morgan and Chris Hopson, the Chair and Chief Executive of NHS Providers, which is incredible.
“This award shows the high quality of governance that exists in the NHS today, especially in the team at the Trust.”
The ICSA Awards, which took place on Tuesday, 27 November, are internationally renowned and aim to recognise and celebrate excellence in governance and annual reporting across the governance profession which often goes on behind the scenes.
The Governance Project of the Year Award, in particular, recognises transformational governance projects that were significant in terms of their size, nature or the value the projects created for the nominated organisations.
There were six other national companies competing for the award, but so impressed were the judges with the work carried out for the merger, it was the Trust that walked away with the prize at the Hilton, on Park Lane, London.
Nigel Trowbridge, Assistant Trust Secretary, added: “I haven’t stopped smiling since we won! It was a real ‘A-List’ event but after they had announced that we’d won, it was all a bit of a blur from there on in.
“We are absolutely delighted that the hard work of the team has been recognised and it is brilliant for the Trust to be mentioned in the same breath as some of the top FTSE 100 and 250 companies.”
