“Life’s too short” – Patient proposes to girlfriend from his hospital bed.
A patient proposed to his girlfriend from his hospital bed this morning after realising life is too short to find the perfect moment.
Lee, 41, from Sleeford, virtually got down on one knee via FaceTime to the love of his life this morning to ask that one important question.
His fiancé, Ellie, 36, originally from Slovakia, said “Yes!” immediately whilst overcome with emotion.
Due to the visiting restrictions in place because of the coronavirus pandemic – FaceTime and phone calls are the only way Lee and Ellie can currently communicate.
The couple have been together for 3 years. They first got talking on a dating site and met for their first date in a local Costa Coffee.
Lee said, “I’m the sort of person who puts things off to wait for the perfect moment, but after being in hospital, it’s made me realise, life’s too short, you have to live for the moment.
“Ellie is amazing, she is my rock and never lets things get her down. After what has happened, it has made me realise how important she is to me and how much we need each other.”
Lee hasn’t yet arranged an engagement ring, but it is one of the first things the newly engaged couple will sort once Lee is out of hospital. Ellie said, “A ring doesn’t matter, I’m just so happy he has asked me to spend the rest of my life with him.”
Once Lee is discharged from hospital, there is a long road of recovery ahead, life is going to change for the couple, but he has said that this won’t stop the couple from reaching their end goal of a dream wedding.
Lee is currently being cared for by the Team on Ward 204 at the Royal Derby Hospital. He said, “There are no words that can express how thankful I am to the all of the teams that have cared for me. Everyone has been amazing, from the Nurses and Doctors, to the guy that brings me my food and drink every day!
“I will never undervalue the NHS and what it provides for our country, I am so grateful and even more so under the current circumstances with the Coronavirus pandemic.”
