Mandatory mask wearing reintroduced for staff, patients and visitors

UHDB staff wearing masks

You are now required to wear a face covering in all areas of our hospitals.

From today, Wednesday 6 July, mask wearing will be mandatory for colleagues, patients and visitors across University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB).

The Trust has made this change after careful monitoring of the Covid-19 transmission, and in response to the increase in infection rates in our communities and number of Covid-19 patients being treated in our hospitals. We are reintroducing mask wearing to keep patients, colleagues and visitors safe when in our hospitals. Masks are available all at hospital entrances and should be worn at all times unless exempt.

Garry Marsh, Executive Chief Nurse said: “We appreciate this may be disappointing for some of you, but our priority is to keep our colleagues, patients and visitors safe.

“The recently updated national guidance now means that individual NHS organisations are expected to determine their Infection Prevention Control (IPC) requirements at a local level. The decision has been made after careful monitoring and discussions with our IPC team and Microbiologists. We will continue to review the levels of Covid-19 and other respiratory infections in our hospitals and in the communities we serve and will respond to national guidance accordingly.”

It is still important to continue to follow good hand hygiene practices and follow any additional IPC guidance provided by UHDB colleagues.

Thank you for continuing to follow the guidance.
