Meet our UHDB Governors: Beverley Martin
Hello, my name is Beverley Martin and I am a Governor at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton.
I chose to become a Governor at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton as when I returned to Derby in 1996, I became heavily involved with Primary Care, Dental and GP surgeries – I had also experience exceptional care at Royal Derby Hospital and volunteered here – so being a governor was the next logical step for me.
I was first elected as a Governor in 2009 – over the years, it has been great to support our patients and staff. I have found that staff have confided in me and shared things with me they probably wouldn’t share with their line managers – it has been my main goal to help resolve these issues for them.
Meeting people personally within our UHDB hospital site, communities and constituency is extremely important to me to gain their insight of the Trust. I really do value visiting wards and departments, interacting and listening to the personal views of patients, public and staff which contributes to care and service improvement. It’s a real shame these visits had to stop throughout the pandemic, but u governors have still benefited from doing these visits virtually via MS Teams.
My favourite memory of being a Governor is being involved in the annual awards judging packs – it really is fascinating to read all of the different nominations detailing how our staff, wards and departments have gone above n beyond for our local communities – it makes me feel so proud.
If you’d like to get in touch, then I'd love to hear from you – you can contact me via email uhdb.govenor@nhs.net.
