‘One in a million’ Ward 408 at RDH presented with Team UHDB Award
Ward 408 at Royal Derby Hospital have been awarded with one of our monthly Making a Difference Awards for the incredible support they have shown a colleague.
The team were paid a surprise visit by Executive Chief Operating Officer, Sharon Martin, who presented them with their award and shared details of the nomination that led to them being recognised with the Team UHDB Award.
Senior Sister, Marie Jackson, accepted the award along with colleagues on 408, who were all very emotional and incredibly touched by the nomination.
The team were nominated by a UHDB colleague for the support and flexibility they have shown to another member of the team during a very difficult personal time. They nominated Ward 408 to thank the team for the compassion that they have shown, saying that: “the team truly are one in a million.
“I think it is imperative we thank our staff for the excellent work they do, not only for our patients but also for our staff. Marie and the team show a true family ethos, embracing our trust vision and values. We never know what we will face in life, but knowing our leaders support is available, makes coping that little bit easier.
“We all deal with situations very differently, and probably don’t always know what support we need. But for a manager to know just what one of her staff needs, looking at practical needs as well as mental well-being, is truly inspiring, and makes me proud to work for this Trust.”
Marie Jackson, Senior Sister, spoke of the importance of managers being able to provide individualised support for members of the team:
“I think it is really important to support our colleagues with the good times and bad times and as a manager of a lovely team, I feel this is a really important part of my role.”
Upon presenting the award to the team, Sharon Martin said that: “these awards are so important to showcase the incredible work happening at the Trust, going above and beyond not just for patients but for staff as well.
“It is a privilege to be able to present this award to you, you all truly deserve this, well done to the whole team”.
