UHDB lights up purple to mark Disability History Month and International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Saturday 3 December 2022 is International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and 16 November–16 December 2022 is Disability History Month.

In recognition of this, UHDB has joined the global movement to light up the entrances at two of our sites, Royal Derby Hospital and Queen’s Hospital Burton, in purple for #PurpleLightUp.

UHDB is proud to be an inclusive employer, and along with the ThisAbility and Long-Term Conditions Staff Network, the Trust has joined this initiative to recognise and celebrate the contribution of our colleagues with Disabilities.

Carol Andrews, Deputy Director of People Services, said: “We pride ourselves on being an inclusive and supportive employer and are on a journey to become one of the best places to work for all. Our ThisAbility and Long-Term Conditions Network is doing amazing work to help us on this journey and ensure all of our colleagues, patients and visitors feel welcomed at all of our hospitals.

“Lighting up our two acute hospitals is a poignant mark of respect and visibly demonstrates that we are proud to shine a light onto the incredible work of #TeamUHDB colleagues with a Disability and reaffirm our commitment and support to them.”
