Today, Friday 8 November, it's World Radiography Day 2024 - a celebration of therapeutic and diagnostic radiographers, and a day that marks the anniversary of the discovery of X-rays in 1895 by the German Physicist William Roentgen (Wilhelm Rontgen).

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) has proudly signed the Age-Friendly Employer Pledge, a nationwide initiative led by the Centre for Ageing Better, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace where employees of all ages feel valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.

Taking this pledge - which reflects our trust values of Compassion, Openness, and Excellence - is part of a larger movement to improve the recruitment, retention, and development of older workers across the UK.

A former midwife, and maternity housekeeper, who dedicated over 35 years of service to women, birthing people and babies, have returned to the Trust, following retirement, to volunteer and provide wellbeing support to their colleagues, helping them to deliver good care to patients.

On Monday 11 November 2024, colleagues across University Hospitals Derby and Burton (UHDB) Trust gathered to mark Remembrance Day through services held at Royal Derby Hospital (RDH) and Queen's Hospital Burton (QHB) - coordinated by our Armed Forces Network.

We are delighted to announce a Paediatric Nurse Recruitment Day on Monday 11 November 2024 - taking place within the Training Centre at our Royal Derby Hospital site. 

This event provides a unique opportunity for registered paediatric nurses, as well as nursing students graduating in early 2025, to explore exciting career options within our dedicated team.

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB) colleagues are hosting this year's surgical congress meeting led by the Association of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeons (ALSGBI) after leading the way nationally in robotic surgery for specialist abdominal wall hernia and complex pancreatic and biliary procedures.

We are proud to celebrate this year's annual SAS Week (14-18 October 2024) here at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB), which honours our Specialty and Specialist (SAS) doctors for the vital role they play in delivering exceptional patient care.

SAS doctors are a cornerstone of the NHS - providing consistent, high quality care as permanent members of clinical teams. They bring an extraordinary range of experience and skills to a range of disciplines and departments, and their impact is immeasurable.

Today (Monday 14 October) is Allied Health Professional (AHP) Day, highlighting the key role AHPs play in the NHS and delivering exceptional care to our patients and communities. We want to take this opportunity to celebrate the roles and contributions of our AHP professions at UHDB by shining a light on the amazing work they do.

On Monday 28 October colleagues and members of the public are invited to drop-in to the free dementia festival event taking place at Royal Derby Hospital (RDH) DE22 3NE, between 9am and 2pm.
