Elaine Day, Governor
I am very passionate and enthusiastic about volunteering. It is a citizen’s opportunity to give back to society in a positive and often practical way, and because of this deeply held belief, I am a trustee at Support Staffordshire, who put me forward as an appointed governor at UHDB, representing both Staffordshire and Derbyshire Community Voluntary services.
I am also a member of Healthwatch Staffordshire’s Board as well as the Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Healthy Communities Forum.
The reasons people volunteer are many but my primary reasons are a desire to share learned knowledge and skills from my previous career in education, to embrace new opportunities and fundamentally to pay back to society and especially the NHS for the care and compassion shown to me in dark times.
I served eight years previously as an NHS governor at Queens Hospital NHS FT Burton and at UHDB after the merger in 2018.
I am excited to be the appointed governor representing the voluntary sector across Derbyshire and Staffordshire and hope to both learn and share my volunteer expertise at this challenging time for us all in the health and social care sector.
