87-year-old becomes 1,000th patient to beat COVID at UHDB

UHDB has now discharged 1,000 patients who have beaten Coronavirus and are now back at home with their families – thanks to the care they have received from staff at our hospitals.

Derbyshire and Staffordshire have been hit hard by the pandemic, and staff at the Trust are celebrating as they bid farewell to our 1,000th survivor, 87-year-old Gwnyeth Campton from Swadlincote.

A patient who spent 46 days in Intensive Care battling Coronavirus has thanked staff at Royal Derby Hospital for saving her life after being discharged home yesterday (3 June). 70-year-old Yvonne Thompson was admitted via ambulance on 5 April after self-isolating at home for the week prior with COVID-19 symptoms, including worsening shortness of breath, which showed no signs of improving.

A member of staff who spent more than three weeks in intensive care battling Coronavirus was today (15 May) discharged from Royal Derby Hospital to rapturous applause from his friends and colleagues. Cyrus Casandra, who is a Clinical Support Worker for the Hospital Out of Hours Team at Royal Derby, was admitted via ambulance on 11 April after suffering from COVID symptoms for more than a week.

A 66-year-old patient who spent over a month fighting Coronavirus in hospital has been discharged from Royal Derby Hospital.

Brian Billyeald, from Holbrook in Derby, was admitted on 26 March after suffering COVID-19 symptoms. After two days of being cared for on Ward 404, he was then taken to ICU where he spent three weeks being cared for.
