Our Paediatrics teams are here to help children who need urgent care this winter

It is extremely important that families continue to make use of Paediatric services across our hospitals should your child urgently need our help this winter.

Our Children’s Emergency Department at Derbyshire Children’s Hospital and A&E at Queen’s Hospital Burton are both open to ensure you and your children are able to safely access exceptional care in the busy months ahead.

Families should rest assured that we have introduced all of the necessary measures to keep our hospitals safe, so it is vital that you call NHS 111 without delay if you need medical assistance, and they will then be able to advise you on what to do next and whether you need to take your little one to hospital.

This winter, it is more important than ever that you use NHS 111 first to limit footfall in our hospitals, so that we can keep everyone safe and care for more poorly people in our A&E departments.

Where a face-to-face appointment is needed, our ambition is to keep clinical activity going as much as possible in Derby and Burton, but we may arrange for your child’s appointment to take place over the phone or via video link instead. If this is the case, we will contact you in advance to let you know.

We are also continuing to run our Burton Paediatrics clinics as normal in the Queen’s Hospital Burton Treatment Centre, away from the main hospital site, although appointments may take place over the phone instead, where clinically appropriate.

The next few months promise to be a challenging period for us all because of Covid-19 and ongoing winter pressures but our Paediatrics services will continue to be there for children who need urgent care.
