First-time Derby mum thanks Team NICU for their outstanding care

First time mum thanking team

A mother whose new-born son spent the first four weeks in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has thanked the incredible staff for the solid support that they provided him with in the early stages of his life.

New mum, Teegan, gave birth to baby Theo ten weeks earlier than expected on 19th February 2020. Theo stayed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for four weeks and was discharged on 18th March 2020.

First-time mum, Teegan said: “I could honestly cry at how amazing every single nurse and doctor was. The staff in the NICU were absolutely incredible.

“We can’t remember all the names of the staff, but we remember in particular; Caren who used to work nights and made us feel safe about going home, Louise who showed me how to bottle feed my son in the nursery, Anita who supported my partner when he first did Theo’s cares and his Consultant, Dr McIntyre, who always made time for us.”

Baby Theo is now thriving at just under 6 months old and that is down to the inspirational work of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Derby Hospital.

When asked to provide reassurance to parents who currently have little ones under the care of our NICU Team, Teegan said: “Your baby could not be in safer hands or with a more supportive team. We felt like part of the “family” and knew that our boy was looked after and loved even when we weren’t there. The care in there is second to none and although you may have a rollercoaster journey, the nurses and doctors will do their absolute best for you and your baby.”
