UHDB celebrates ward 801's first birthday at QHB
Today, staff at Queen’s Hospital Burton celebrate ward 801’s first birthday to commemorate their hard work and achievements since its opening in June 2020.
Situated in the treatment centre, ward 801 is an Elective Orthopaedic ward, mainly treating patients with hip and knee replacements, and supported other wards throughout the pandemic.
The ward wanted to celebrate the milestone birthday due to the pandemic restricting plans when the ward first launched its service. Staff came together to arrange a mini celebration, including cake, banners and balloons to reminisce on a year of success as a newly formed team.
Sarah Raddon, ward manager and senior sister on ward 801, reflected on what has been a turbulent year, but one still worth celebrating. Sarah said: “It has been a challenge with redeploying staff to the Intensive Care Unit, fracture clinic, vaccination tent and hub, but the team have achieved a lot.”
The ward has now seen over 900 patients across the year and continues to support orthopaedic treatments.
Vanda Dennis, matron on ward 801, said: “I want to express my thanks to Sarah and the team for their work over the last 12 months. The team have had to source a new method of managing post-operative pain in line with infection control measures, and have been excellent.
“I hope they continue to see an increase in patients coming through their doors and are able to continue to deliver the standard of orthopaedic care that they have set.”
