In the summer of 2019 the Trust’s wholly-owned subsidiary, known as D-Hive, aimed to bring a pop concert called Derby Sound to Derbyshire. This concert would have brought significant investment to the area, with the any funds generated reinvested into the NHS, and NHS staff receiving a number of free tickets and concessions. Sadly, due to poor ticket sales, the concert was cancelled in advance as it was not deemed commercially viable.

As a subsidiary company D-Hive can act as a private company operate in some circumstances with greater flexibility than an NHS organisation and this can be helpful to the Trust. One of the services it provides to the Trust is a temporary staffing bank service where staff can select flexible working options and receive weekly payments.

The Trust did not incur any costs from the cancellation of this concert in 2019. However, the Trust has benefitted to the sum of £2.5m from D-Hive over the past five years to be reinvested back into NHS services.
