AccessAble launch new Detailed Access Guides for UHDB
UHDB are proud to be working with AccessAble to create a number of Detailed Access Guides to facilities, wards, and departments at our hospital sites.
These guides are full of facts, figures and photographs to help patients, visitors and staff plan their journeys to and around our hospitals - covering everything from parking facilities and hearing loops, to walking distances and accessible toilets.
Everyone’s accessibility needs are different, and what is accessible for one person is not always accessible to someone else. This is why having detailed, accurate information is so important, and why trained surveyors came to our sites in person to check that the Guides were fully accurate.
The Detailed Access Guides are available via the AccessAble website, or on the AccessAble App (which is free to download from the App Store and Google Play).

Melissa Howe, General Manager of Facilities Management at UHDB, said: “Accessibility to our hospitals and services is crucial to our patients, visitors, and staff. Working with AccessAble has been a fantastic opportunity to provide vital information on all types of accessibility.
"The professionalism of their team and their dedication to gathering the minutest details is remarkable. The guides are an incredible tool for all people, no matter what their challenges, giving the information they need to make informed decisions and to have a positive experience with us.
"At UHDB we are committed to enhancing accessibility and we will use the action plans as a basis for improvement planning. Thanks to Natalie Roddis for heading up the project for team UHDB and to all the AccessAble team for ensuring the project ran smoothly and on time.”
Natalie, our Environment and Sustainability Officer, added that she was "thilled" to be launching the Guides here at UHDB, saying: "Everyone will need to visit a hospital at some point in their life and we understand that visiting hospital can be stressful. Whether attending for treatment, visiting a relative, starting work here, or simply calling into one of our coffee shops our Access Guides provide accessibility information to help people plan their visit to our sites.
"I'd like to extend my thanks to all of the departments that the AccessAble Surveyors visited; for being accommodating and supportive of the project during some of our busiest times."
