Brewers celebrate cup triumph with Burton patients
Patients at Queen’s Hospital Burton were treated to a surprise visit from Carabao Cup semi-finalists Burton Albion yesterday.
Manager Nigel Clough and members of the Brewers squad celebrated their famous win over Middlesbrough the night before by spreading Christmas joy around the hospital wards.
The players handed out Christmas presents, took photographs and signed programmes for patients during a tour of the children’s department and chemotherapy, trauma and orthopaedic wards.
Match winner Jake Hesketh and several other players that played on Tuesday night also stopped to take photos and chatted with different members of staff to thank them for all of their hard work.
Nigel Clough said: “We all look forward to the annual visit to Queen’s Hospital and we love to meet the staff who work so hard all year round as well as Christmas and the patients who may well have to spend December 25 on the wards rather than at home.
“There was a great buzz after the excitement of the win in the Carabao Cup the night before and we were delighted to see that the success of the team has given so many people a big lift.
“We would like to thank everyone for making us so welcome and want to wish them all the best for the festive season.”
