Clinicians from across the UK attend course led by UHDB colleagues

Burton Regional Anaesthesia Course

Clinicians from across the UK have descended upon Queen’s Hospital Burton for a nationally renowned training course on regional anaesthetic delivered by UHDB colleagues.

The Burton Regional Anaesthesia Course, which took place on 11 November at the Queen’s Hospital Education Centre, was taking place for the fourteenth year and provided attendees with hands-on training, tips and guidance for regional anaesthesia practice.

Dr Mohamed Elriedy, Consultant Anaesthetist at UHDB, was involved in the planning of the event, and said it was a huge success:

“We are all really proud of being able to offer this course to professionals from around the country. It has been running for a number of years and is a brilliant asset for the Trust. It really enhances our reputation, particularly here at Queen’s Hospital Burton, as a leading centre of excellence in regional anaesthesia training and expertise.”

The course involved delegates carrying out ‘hands on’ demonstrations for finding and scanning nerves, which are targeted in regional anaesthesia in order to block signals and numb specific parts of the body. Imaging was also another key focus, with attendees being introduced to the equipment and techniques needed to carry out nerve block procedures.

Around 20 clinicians were in attendance, with additional support from industry partner, and was accredited by Regional Anaesthesia UK and the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

Dr Elriedy and his colleagues have already turned their attention to the next event, with a large waiting list of eager and interested parties already on the waiting list for future events.

He added: “We like to keep the events small to offer a more practical session, allowing each attendee more one-to-one time with us and thus having a more immersive experience. However, as a result and due to the event’s popularity, we do have a long waiting list of people who want to attend, so we are contemplating running the course twice per year.”

Dr James Crampton, Interim Executive Medical Director at UHDB, said: “It is fantastic to see our colleagues leading the way in delivering nationally acclaimed training, firmly putting UHDB on the map as an excellent place to work and develop your clinical career. I am extremely grateful to the team for their hard work in pulling together this programme and for delivering such high standards of training and look forward to watching the event continue to go from strength to strength.”
