Multi-storey car park at Queen’s Hospital Burton

Construction of a new multi-storey car park at Queen’s Hospital Burton is set to begin imminently.

The project has got the go-ahead following the allocation of £3m of Government funding. The car park is to be constructed on land behind the Treatment Centre building on the main Queen’s Hospital Burton site and is set for completion by next winter.

Duncan Bedford, Executive Managing Director at UHDB, said: “We are delighted to have secured funding to enable work to begin on a new multi-storey car park at Queen’s Hospital Burton. The three-storey car park will create 425 parking spaces on site, which will compensate for those lost during the recent expansion of the Treatment Centre.

“This development will also contribute to the further development of our plans for the Outwoods village by allowing us to move parking spaces currently located at Outwoods back to the main hospital site. We are continuing to work on with all of our partners on the plans for the Outwoods village, which will focus on preventative care and managing long-term conditions, with the aim of improving the health of the local community.

“We have worked in partnership with Staffordshire County Council on this. We would like to thank UHDB Governor Cllr Bernard Peters and the residents of Horninglow, as well as other community representatives, who have worked tirelessly to achieve this for Queen’s Hospital Burton and the surrounding communities.”

“While construction works take place, we continue to urge our staff, patients and visitors to be respectful of our neighbours and avoid parking on residential streets close to our hospitals.”

Gavin Boyle, Chief Executive at UHDB, said: “Part of our plans prior to the merger of the former Derby and Burton trusts was to improve the patient experience of those visiting Queen’s Hospital Burton. This development will help us to alleviate parking issues on and around the hospital site.

“We’ve recently completed a £2 million upgrade of the Emergency Department and are currently working on expanding our Critical Care facilities. This comes in addition to the biggest capital development in well over a decade to the Queen’s Hospital site with the construction of the £23m Treatment Centre Extension, which is helping us to transform the care we’re able to offer our patients.”

The Outwoods development is one of the largest NHS capital projects in this area for some time and will transform acute and community care for local people. The Outwoods village will bring together a range of facilities including health, community and care facilities on one site in an open community setting, and focus on preventative care and managing long-term conditions, with the aim of improving the health of the local community.
