Florence Nightingale's Ward 5 hailed for 'superb' feedback after receiving latest CEO Award
Florence Nightingale Community Hospital's (FNCH) Ward 5 team has been praised for the "superb" feedback that has been received by colleagues and patients alike - despite welcoming its first patients just over 100 days ago.
The ward was opened on 5 December 2022 as part of the Trust's winter capacity planning to help patients who have been deemed medically fit for discharge to receive the final aspects of their care away from our acute hospital sites - which also frees up capacity for those who need acute care.
In the 107 days since the ward opened, 216 patients have received care on the ward and the team has received glowing feedback during this time. [as of 7 March 2023]
UHDB's Chief Executive Stephen Posey was the latest to add his acclaim to the team, as he presented them with his latest Monthly Chief Executive Award.
Ajinder Gidda, who has previously worked across a number of wards across the Trust, has stepped up into the role of Senior Sister on Ward 5. She explained how the team has been created from colleagues with different backgrounds from different areas of the Trust, but that everyone has come together to create a harmonious and welcoming atmosphere.
She said: "Everyone has come from areas such as Intensive Care and Theatres, with some having never having worked here at FNCH before. There were a few nerves among the team in the early days, but we're now all really settled and are really enjoying working here.
Jo-Curzon, one of the ward's Sisters, said it's not just colleagues who are enjoying their time on the ward, but the patients too: "The patients really appreciate their surroundings as well and because we're a smaller team, we're able to build up good relationships with them and become a friendly, familiar face which is lovely."
Sister Angela Roome added: "Once people come to work here at the hospital, they don't want to leave as it's such a community, welcoming and friendly feeling and everyone always helps each other out. We've got a really good team and I'm just doing the best job I can to give them the best possible leadership."
Stephen Posey visited the team to present them with their award and praised the impact their work has had on their patients and the Trust during the busy winter period: "This ward was created at short notice, and the feedback received from colleagues and patients alike has been extremely positive.
"So much work is involved in creating a ward like this, as well as bringing a team together to staff it, all while delivering the level of care that you continue to do. It is very impressive. I would like to say how grateful we are for everything you've done, so thank you and well done."
