UHDB midwives now providing vital care at Pirelli Stadium
Burton Albion FC have made one of the suites at the Pirelli Stadium available for UHDB midwives to offer expectant and new mums care closer to their own homes.
The club has donated the facility to the Trust for the foreseeable future, with midwives from Queen’s Hospital Burton offering our patients antenatal and post-natal care within the community.
Community midwives are now running clinics from Monday to Friday at the ground; conducting antenatal checks for our pregnant women and providing post-natal support, including heel prick tests, for new parents.
Andrea Smith, Senior Community Midwife, said: “We’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by the show of support we’ve received from the public in recent weeks and this is yet another example of this fabulous community spirit shining through.
“Having this additional location in the centre of Burton will allow us to see more of our expectant and new mums closer to their homes and offer them the antenatal and post-natal care that they need, so we’d like to say a huge thank you to Burton Albion for their support.”
Burton Albion have taken the generous step of making the Pirelli Stadium available for the NHS, should it be required, with club staff working remotely from home during the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
Fleur Robinson, Burton Albion Commercial Director, said: “We are proud and honoured to be able to provide our facilities to the Community Midwives at Queen’s Hospital Burton, to help support them in their vital work helping mothers and babies.
“Our focus at Burton Albion Football Club has always been finding ways in which we can help our community, both as a club and with our Community Trust.
“While staff are working remotely from home, we want to find ways to utilise our facilities for that benefit and any way we can support our NHS and emergency services, and the fantastic staff who comprise them, we will do.
“We would also like to thank all NHS staff working locally and nationally for their incredible sacrifices and hard work at this, such a difficult time for everybody the world over.
“In the meantime, we urge everyone to follow the guidance of the NHS and the Government, in terms of remaining at home, washing hands thoroughly and continuing social distancing.”
