New dad Carl's tribute to Labour Ward

New parents Sophie Calladine and Carl Wright have sent their thanks to the “incredible” Maternity colleagues at Royal Derby Hospital who helped them welcome their daughter into the world.

Ward 405 senior sister Sophie gave birth to baby Harper last month whilst she had Covid-19, with husband Carl, who also works at UHDB as a Medical Equipment Librarian, insisting that he could never thank his colleagues enough for the amazing care they provided to his family.

In a lovely tribute to the team, Carl wrote: “Due to my wife being Covid positive, we didn't know what to expect. Whilst on the Labour Ward, the care was exceptional, given the circumstances. It was a worrying time for both me and my wife but Eve, the initial midwife we had, was very compassionate; caring and nothing was too much.

“Jenny, who actually delivered Harper, was absolutely fantastic - she spent two shifts with us on the Wednesday and Thursday and we would just like to say how much we appreciate what she did for us and our baby.

“The whole team were fantastic, including Consultant Miss Kieran, who explained everything and did everything she could to make the whole experience as relaxed as possible for my wife, despite her having Covid.

"We also want to thank midwife Kim, who was also fantastic. She worked with my wife on her final management placement, so they knew each other well, and it was great being able to discuss the past and what the future holds.

“The whole team were incredible and I cannot thank them enough. They are a credit to the Trust and without them being so kind, caring and compassionate, the whole experience wouldn't have been the same. We just want to say a huge thank you to the whole team on the Labour Ward. We welcomed our beautiful and healthy daughter Harper into the world on 10, so thank you to the Labour Ward.”
