'One World, One #TeamUHDB' flag raised at Royal Derby Hospital site
On Tuesday 4 April, UHDB and the EMBRACE staff network proudly hoisted the new 'One World, One #TeamUHDB' flag at Royal Derby Hospital to celebrate and recognise the diversity of #TeamUHDB colleagues.
Colleagues from across departments came to watch the flag hoist as EMBRACE Network Lead Mwansa Mulenga, Chief Executive and executive sponsor for the EMBRACE network Stephen Posey and Chair Kathy McLean shared short speeches about the flag, the importance of diversity in our workforce, and our ongoing commitment to be an inclusive, welcoming organisation for all.
You can watch our video from the flag hoisting ceremony below, or by clicking here >
The flag proudly displays the flags of the nationalities of #TeamUHDB colleagues from across the globe, demonstrating how we all work together to deliver exceptional care to our communities. We are hugely privileged that talented people from across the world have chosen to invest their careers working at UHDB.
Displaying over 100 national flags, the flag was designed in close coordination with the EMBRACE Network, based upon data from our employee systems in 2022, and will be reviewed and updated on an annual basis. We look forward to seeing how the artwork will change over the coming years as we welcome new colleagues from even more nations.
You may have seen the artwork in the corridors of our hospital sites - which have now been in place for around six months - and we are delighted to be able to make our pride in our diverse and truly international organisational even more visible to those at and nearby our Royal Derby Hospital site. The flag will also be displayed in the near future at Queen's Hospital Burton and Florence Nightingale Community Hospital, where flagpoles are in place.
Reflecting on the flag, Chief Executive Stephen Posey said:
"We are hugely grateful that people from across the globe, in all parts of our workforce, have chosen to invest their considerable talent, and their experience, in the NHS and us as a Trust.
"By displaying this artwork on a flag and on our walls we want to instil a sense of teamwork and belonging, and publicly show our pride in the diversity of our people.
"Our staff networks provide a huge amount of support and we continue to share a commitment together to provide a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for everyone who works here."
Thank you to all our #TeamUHDB family who were able to attend and watch the flag be raised, taking part in this celebration of our worldwide workforce who have come from near and far to provide exceptional care for our patients.
