Dedicated midwife receives prestigious Chief Midwifery Officer Silver Award

A midwife who has worked tirelessly to support new mums and ‘put women first’ during the pandemic has been awarded a prestigious accolade.

Katherine Mabey, who works as a midwife for UHDB was nominated by her colleague Patti Paine for a Silver award and has been given the award today by the Chief Midwifery Officer, Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent.

Jemma Walker, Clinical Educator and Co-Chair & Founder of the UHDB Carers Network was presented with the Trust’s Excellent Employee Award after being nominated by a colleague who praised her for creating a space to share experiences and raise the profile of working carers across University Hospitals of Derby and Burton.

Of all the people who have had their COVID-19 vaccination across Derbyshire and Staffordshire so far, thousands have first had to overcome a crippling fear of needles.

One UHDB colleague who is going the extra mile to support those that are scared is Staff Nurse, Kev Orme who has been working shifts in our Royal Derby Hospital Vaccination Hub.

Brave Burton nurse to leave UK to help Ukrainians on Polish border

A brave UHDB Nurse is travelling to a Przemyśl on the Polish border to care for terrified Ukrainians fleeing their war-torn country.

Debbie Painter, a Senior Emergency Nurse Practitioner at Queen’s Hospital Burton Emergency Department, and two other medical professionals from across the UK will act as first responders for those needing medical attention as part of the “UKDoctors” programme.

NHS Staff Survey results 2021

Staff at UHDB have again said that the Trust is the place where they would like their families to receive treatment. Each year, the NHS nationally undertakes an anonymous staff survey, with the survey this year being conducted 18 months into the Covid-19 pandemic. Nearly 7,000 staff took part, a far higher proportion than the national average.

Jenny says farewell to Nursing after 51 years’ service in the NHS

A long serving nurse from Lichfield is finally hanging up her uniform after a staggering 51 years.

Jenny Heritage, 69, from Burntwood is looking forward to relaxing and taking life at her own speed once she retires.

Jenny qualified as a Nurse after she completed her training in 1971. After this, she went on to be a Theatre Sister until 1979.

UHDB colleague bravely reflects on thoughts of the pandemic at national remembrance event

A UHDB Nurse bravely shared her thoughts and memories of working through the pandemic at a national remembrance event last week.

NHS Charities Together held the remembrance service at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire on Friday. The event was held as an opportunity to “reflect on the impact of the pandemic for everyone, as well as wider ongoing loss being felt across the world”.
