Facilities team are like 'unseen army' says FNCH supervisor on FM Day
Today is Facilities Management (FM) day and here at UHDB we are lucky to have so many incredible facilities staff who work tirelessly to ensure that our patients, colleagues and visitors have the best experience they can while using our hospitals.
To mark FM day (Friday, 13 May) we want to recognise and shine a light on all the amazing work our facilities teams do across our five sites.

Introducing our new International Nurse Facilitator, Aldarico
Meet Aldarico – our International Nurse Facilitator. He originally started his Nurse Training in the Philippines and moved over to the UK in July 2019 to continue his nursing role working at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton.
“I came over to the UK with a group of other Filipino Nurses, some of us lived together at the start so we could really try to embrace British culture. My new role as International Nurse Facilitator is about fostering a positive learning experience for international nurses coming to work with us at #TeamUHDB – my support isn’t just for our Filipino Nurses, it is for any nurse that has joined us from overseas.”

UHDB offers new life and career to five Palestinian refugee nurses
Royal Derby Hospital this week welcomed five refugees who have been working as nurses in Lebanon to give them training and experience to become qualified nurses at UHDB as part of a national scheme spearheaded by NHSE/I.
Ghada El Ayoud, Ibrahim Al-Ali, Ibrahim Tantory, Salah Hussein and Hamzeh Shridi, who are all from Palestine, were all working as nurses in Lebanon, where they were also living in refugee camps with their families – often in poor conditions.

Derby DrivAbility to host Open Day showcasing adaptations and equipment for disabled drivers and passengers
Part of the Driving Mobility network, Derby DrivAbility will be hosting a free mobility event for healthcare professionals and the public on 14 June. We will be offering the opportunity for visitors to explore specialist equipment for driving, wheelchair loading and passenger safety.

Trust says farewell to pioneering Chief Nurse
After 13 years of dedicated service to the people of Derbyshire and Staffordshire, Cathy Winfield MBE has hung up her UHDB tunic for the final time as she leaves for a new adventure.
Cathy will start a new role as Chief Nursing Officer for the South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board. She has been an inspirational nursing leader and has played a key role in making UHDB a great place to work, learn and receive care.

Dedicated midwife receives prestigious Chief Midwifery Officer Silver Award
A midwife who has worked tirelessly to support new mums and ‘put women first’ during the pandemic has been awarded a prestigious accolade.
Katherine Mabey, who works as a midwife for UHDB was nominated by her colleague Patti Paine for a Silver award and has been given the award today by the Chief Midwifery Officer, Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent.

Celebrating International Day of the Midwife
On Thursday 5 May we’re marking International Day of the Midwife and thanking our midwives and maternity support workers for their hard work, compassion and dedication. It's undoubtedly been a year like no other, as the challenge of providing outstanding care to women and their families has been made all the more difficult by the complexities of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Changes in visiting guidance across our hospitals

We are delighted to announce, following a thorough and competitive recruitment process, that Stephen Posey has been appointed as the new substantive Chief Executive Officer at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton and will join the Trust in September.

Colleagues gave a huge round of applause and cheers after Phlebotomy Supervisor, Denise Clark, was presented with our Patient Hero Award for the help she gives to patients with Learning Disabilities and Complex Challenging Behaviours.

Jemma presented with Excellent Employee award for raising the profile of working carers across UHDB
A colleague has received a special award to recognise the support she provides to a network of carers across Team UHDB.
Jemma Walker, Clinical Educator and Co-Chair & Founder of the UHDB Carers Network was presented with the Trust’s Excellent Employee Award after being nominated by a colleague who praised her for creating a space to share experiences and raise the profile of working carers across University Hospitals of Derby and Burton.

UHDB backs national campaign to help former nurses and midwives return to profession
UHDB continues to offer support to nurses and midwives who have decided to pursue a career away from the NHS with a route back into healthcare through our Return to Practice (RtP) programme.
