Patients already benefiting from new QHB endoscopy room

Endoscopy team at Queen's Hospital

A new endoscopy treatment room has opened at Queen’s Hospital Burton to further improve the level of care available to those in need of a procedure.

The hospital’s Endoscopy Unit now has three treatment rooms on site – allowing the Trust to see more patients than before and better manage any increase in future demand.

Around 7,000 procedures are typically completed each year on the unit, with the extra endoscopy room now allowing our staff to perform an additional 2,500 procedures on top of that.

Since opening on 18 December 2019, 26 endoscopic procedures have taken place in the new facility, with a further 16 lists planned throughout February that will benefit 182 patients.

Work to expand the unit has been ongoing in the unit since October 2019 but hasn’t resulted in any listings being affected.

A former decontamination room has been transformed into the new treatment room as part of the work, while the unit has also been redecorated and had new flooring fitted to make it more inviting for patients.

Diane Aldridge, Endoscopy Manager, said: “Having a third treatment room has been fantastic, as it’s allowed us to see more patients sooner, to further enhance the level of care we’re able to offer.

"We’re really happy with how the works have turned out, as it’s helped make the unit look more inviting and, most importantly, we’ve received some really positive feedback from patients and their families.

“We’re really proud to be able to say that our patients were not affected in any way while the works took place, and I have no doubt that this extra facility will really benefit our patients, going forward.”
