Prem Singh appointed as new Trust Chair
University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) is pleased to share that Prem Singh has been appointed as its new Trust Chair.
Prem, who originally joined the NHS as a student nurse, has more than 47 years of NHS and social care experience and has held senior CEO and Chair roles across healthcare in Derbyshire for over two decades.
Prem retired from his last NHS roles as Chairman of Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (DCHS) as well as Chairman of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board in 2022, before deciding to rejoin the NHS here at UHDB to become a part of his local acute hospital trust.
On his appointment, Prem said: "The opportunity to serve my local hospital and community is a massive pull and was far too compelling to be missed.
"I believe in 'service to others', social justice and inclusion, and I am passionate about improving healthcare services as well as the general health and wellbeing of the population - especially as we look to collectively tackle the inequalities that we know exist.
"I look forward to joining the leadership of UHDB at the next stage of the Trust’s journey, and to be able to actively contribute to our systems across Derbyshire and Staffordshire."
Prem began his career in 1975 when he arrived from Malaysia to begin his student nurse training in Derbyshire and has lived in the area ever since - giving him a wealth of knowledge of local healthcare and the communities served by UHDB.
In addition to his former roles as Chairman, Prem has held senior executive roles as CEO and executive Director of Nursing and Quality and served in several national leadership positions.
Stephen Posey, Chief Executive, said: "We are delighted that Prem has chosen to join UHDB and we are looking forward to welcoming him to our leadership team.
"To have a Chair who brings such a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise of local healthcare will be of huge benefit to the Trust as we continue to focus on delivering the best care we can to the people of Derbyshire and Staffordshire."
Prem will formally start his new position on 20 May.
Prem replaces Dr Kathy McLean, who has stood down from her Chair role at UHDB to take up the post of Chair of the NHS Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board.
