Professor Fran Game awarded prestigious Roger Pecoraro accolade

Fran Game Roger Pecoraro Award

We are proud to share that Professor Fran Game, Clinical Director in Research and Development and Consultant Diabetologist at UHDB, has received the 2024 American Diabetes Association (ADA) Roger Pecoraro Award for her significant contribution and research into Diabetes foot care.

Professor Game has been a consultant at UHDB since 2011, and has led a number of multi-centre and multi-national trials to aid and improve care for patients with diabetes who often experience issues with their feet, which is her main research interest, as well as chairing both the Editorial Board of the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot and the National Diabetes Foot Care Audit of England and Wales.

The Roger Pecoraro Award recognises a researcher who has made significant scientific contributions and demonstrates an untiring commitment to improving the understanding of the detection, treatment and prevention of diabetic foot complications.

Professor Game, who is also an Honorary Professor at the University of Nottingham and a vital member of the Derby Clinical Trials Support Unit, said she was honoured to receive the award and give the Roger Pecoraro lecture at this year’s scientific meeting in Orlando.

She said: "To showcase 20 years of work in the field of the diabetic foot was an opportunity for me to stop and reflect on all that we have achieved. For me it was important to reflect on how the work I have led over the years has fed into national and international guidelines and improved the lives of people with diabetes-related foot disease and reduced their risk of amputation.

"To be able to add the words ‘University Hospitals of Derby and Burton’ on my title slide at this, the largest diabetes conference in the world, was an added moment of pride.”

P rofessor Game's work and research also saw her recognised with the Edward James Olmos Award for amputation prevention by the American Limb Preservation Society in 2021.
