Registrars who always go 'above and beyond' recognised with awards
Two registrars who consistently go “above and beyond” to ensure seamless patient care, have been acknowledged by their colleagues with awards.
Daniella Draicchio and Cathryn Buechel work as Medical Registrars for the Hospital Out Of Hours team (HOOH) at Royal Derby Hospital and have both been recognised for their dedication by being named ‘Registrar of the Year’ in two different categories of awards organised by their wider team.
Their roles mean they often have to deal with high pressure situations and lend support to colleagues across the Trust in a variety of different roles.
Cathryn, who has only been in the role for three months, took home the ‘Sweep The Sheds’ award for “consistently rolling up her sleeves and getting on with any job that is required at the time”.
Daniella was given the ‘Blue Head’ award, reflecting her ability to remain calm and focused in high pressure situations, which colleagues state Daniella has done on multiple occasions during some challenging shifts.
Upon receiving her award, Cathryn said: “It was a complete surprise getting the email especially because I’ve only been a medical registrar for a short period of time.
“I appreciate the reflection on the team’s opinion of my leadership and how I work within the wider HOOH team as these can be challenging shifts for all team members. It is lovely to be recognised, however, I am just one person working as part of a team that works extremely hard and includes many fantastic ACPs and junior doctors, and I feel grateful to work alongside such excellent colleagues.”
‘Blue Head’ award winner Daniella said: “We work long hours and we work very hard. It’s no reflection of my work as a person because we work very much as a team, but of course it’s very nice to be recognised.
“It helps you feel like you are doing the right thing, particularly when you are working out of hours.”
Dr Gareth Hughes, Clinical Lead for the HOOH team, said the awards are given as a result of discussions between the wider team as a way of recognising good practice.
He said: “The HOOH team works hard to maintain high standards of patient care outside of regular working hours.
“All medical registrars lead the team in looking after a broad range of patients in challenging circumstances, often with conflicting demands on their time.
“In highlighting these two exceptional individuals, we hope to underline the important contribution the team makes in delivering safe, quality care at Royal Derby Hospital.”
