State-of-the-art facilities on display at Queen's Hospital Education Centre grand opening
Colleagues from across the Trust came together to celebrate the grand opening of the Queen's Hospital Education Centre (QHEC) after an extensive refurbishment programme today (28 March).
Chief Executive Stephen Posey officially opened the Centre, with Chair Kathy McLean also in attendance alongside other members of the Trust's senior and executive teams.
After around two years of hard work, the Centre is now fully functioning and able to provide training and development to #TeamUHDB colleagues and provide training to doctors and clinicians still undergoing training across a wide range of specialist areas.
The Centre houses state-of-the-art facilities including virtual reality and augmented reality technology, which allows colleagues to gain practice in clinical settings as well as using the technology as a method of unwinding to aid mental wellbeing.
A simulation centre is located on the upper floor, with a simulated four-bedded ward area which allows trainees to gain experience in a live ward setting, as well as a simulated theatre and maternity delivery suite - complete with advanced manikins.
The maternity manikin, named SimMom, is so advanced that it can even deliver its own baby in a number of circumstances ranging from a normal birth, to baby presenting in breach to give trainees as much exposure to different outcomes as possible.
QHEC is also home to around 20 teaching rooms, cardiac resus training, ultrasound facilities, seminar and meeting rooms and the Library and Knowledge Service - bringing all of these teams together under one roof for the first time in Burton.
