Stephen Posey announced as new Chief Executive Officer
We are delighted to announce, following a thorough and competitive recruitment process, that Stephen Posey has been appointed as the new substantive Chief Executive Officer at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton and will join the Trust in September.
Stephen is currently Chief Executive at the ‘Outstanding’ rated Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Cambridge. He has more than 25 years of experience in the health service, spanning commissioning, provider and strategic roles, with the last five years spent at one of the world's leading cardiothoracic hospitals and the UK's main heart and lung transplant centre. Prior to that role Stephen was deputy chief executive at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.
During his time at Royal Papworth, Stephen has successfully delivered the move to a new state-of-the-art clinical site on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and led it to become the first in the country to receive an 'Outstanding' rating across all Care Quality Commission (CQC) domains. In 2019, working in partnership with the University of Cambridge, Stephen secured funding for the co-located Heart and Lung Research Institute, which will open in Spring and see new treatments created, tested and delivered to tackle the biggest causes of premature death in the world.
Dr Kathy McLean OBE, Chair, said: “I’m delighted we have been able to recruit Stephen to the role of Chief Executive Officer. Stephen’s experience and expertise will help us build on our successes as a Trust to date and support the delivery of our strategy to provide exceptional care together and the best outcomes for patients. Stephen has a strong track record on delivering both great quality and performance alongside excellent ties with research and academic institutions, something we as a university teaching hospital are continuing to work towards.
“I would like to thank all those involved in the recruitment process, including our Board colleagues and our Council of Governors and partners, for their work in the recruitment process. The Board and I look forward to welcoming Stephen to the Trust in September.”
Stephen Posey said: “It is a real privilege to be joining University Hospitals of Derby and Burton as chief executive. The Trust and its talented, dedicated staff and volunteers serves a vast community and I am very much looking forward to working alongside them and our partners to help deliver the best possible care to our patients.”
Dr McLean added: “I would like to thank our interim Chief Executive Dr Magnus Harrison, who will continue in the role until Stephen joins the Trust. Dr James Crampton and Simon Crowther will continue in their roles as Interim Executive Medical Director and Interim Deputy Chief Executive respectively during this time.”
