Team that offers palliative care praised for unwavering compassion

Ward 2 at FNCH get Making a Difference Award

Colleagues who offer palliative care to patients nearing the end of their lives have been recognised for their compassion with a Making a Difference Award.

The team on Ward 2 at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital were given the CEO award for their continuous efforts to help terminally ill patients and their families.

Chief Executive Stephen Posey visited the team to give them their certificate and said he was impressed by their compassion when he saw the team at work during his first week at the Trust.

He said: “I met the team on Ward 2 during my first week at the Trust and I was so impressed by the incredible work they do to support patients and their families during some of the hardest times in people’s lives.

“It was clear to see from even the small amount of time I spent with them just what an incredible job the team does and the significant impact that has on our patients and their families.

“End of Life Care is such an important part of what we do and the team’s dedication and strong standards mean that our patients are in the best possible hands during their final days.

The team demonstrates our values of compassion, openness and excellence in abundance and that shines through in their day-to-day work.”

Clare Hicklin, Sister, was among some of the team to receive the award and said it “means so much.”

She said: “We feel very proud and privileged as a team to have received the monthly Making a Difference CEO Award.  As a team it was great to be able to meet Stephen and to showcase our End of Life ward.

“We feel very proud to have gained this recognition. The team works really hard to make sure we can make this a good place to be for patients and families who are experiencing what can be a really difficult time.

“To know that what we do is appreciated really helps and we are so proud of the work we do so it is nice to see it recognised in this way.”
