A group of volunteers from Toyota, who joined Team UHDB to support us through the Covid-19 pandemic, have been praised by our Executive Board.

Gavin Boyle, Chief Executive and Amanda Rawlings, Director of People and Organisational Development, joined our group of Toyota Engineers to thank them for working alongside us over the last two months, helping us with our fight against Covid-19.

The engineers have been working with us for a total of 54 days. Friday, 15 May marks their final day in the Trust, where they will be saying farewell to their teams in Clinical Engineering and SKANSKA.

Gavin Boyle said, “Throughout my time in the NHS, I have never known anything like Covid-19, it’s been tough, but one of the things that has made it bearable is the support we have received from our communities and partners.

“To the engineers who have supported us, it might have seemed like nothing, but to us, it was everything. It was a sign that we weren’t alone and our partners were here to support us at a time of need.”

Karl Warren, Maintenance Engineer from Toyota, said: “We’ve really enjoyed our time working within the NHS. It has been nice to have some normality in our lives by still coming to work.

“Working in the NHS for this short period of time has been like working with a massive machine – each individual has their part to play. It’s been really interesting and we’ve been looked after so well.

The team will start to gradually return to Toyota on Monday as the factory starts to reopen on a reduced scale.
