Transition to Adult Services events being held for parents and carers

Transition to Adult Services

Parents and carers of young adults with complex health needs are being invited to attend two specialist events at the Royal Derby Hospital to help them with the care of their children who are transferring between paediatric and adult services in an acute hospital environment.

The ‘Transition to Adult Services’ events will focus on how parents and carers can best prepare young people for the shift between being cared for in the Children’s Hospital to being an adult services patient with the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. The event will also focus on how we as a Trust can help to make this transition as smooth as possible through a workshop and focus group discussions between attendees and healthcare professionals.

Nina Heighington, WellChild Pathway Co-Ordinator for Children with Medical Complexities, said: “This is a really important event because it helps us to do some preparation directly with parents, but it is also a chance for us to hear things from their perspective which is really useful to us as it helps us to make our service more effective for them.

“We are always looking to improve our services and we can’t do that without the vital input from parents and carers.”

The events will take place in Teaching Room 4 in the Education Centre at the Royal Derby on Thursday 4 April and Wednesday 5 June 2019, running from 5pm – 7pm.
