University Hospitals of Derby and Burton Estates and Facilities and Patient Experience team have been shortlisted for Estates and Facilities Team of the Year at The Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM) Awards 2022.

The IHEEM Awards aims to recognise and award excellence in the healthcare sector, the shortlisted nominations will be reviewed by an experienced judging panel and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony later this year.

UHDB’s Estates and Facilities team are one of the only teams in the county to have Patient Experience within the Estates and Facilities team. One of the advantages of this, is that the teams have first hand information of the patient experience and can constantly look for ways to innovate and improve their experience.

During the Covid-19 pandemic the Estates and Facilities team have experienced immense pressure and had to adapt to changes very quickly to support the Trust. James Chadwick, Head of Estates at UHDB, describes some of the changes the team have implemented and how they ‘rose to the challenge’ including setting up PPE hubs and vaccinations centres across the Trust.

James said: “teams in all areas of the directorate have not only supported their own roles and teams but have serviced the fluid clinical needs of the Trust”. Members of the team volunteered to work in other areas of our hospitals to support clinical colleagues and our patients.

Alongside this, the teams have helped to design and implement creative infection prevention and control (IPC) measures, social distancing measures and other changes to services. James highlights how the team have gone above and beyond: “our teams deserve the recognition for all of the hard work, motivation, and dedication that they have all shown to keep the cogs turning within our Trust “.

James gave a big thank you to the whole Estates and Facilities team: “I am proud to say that I am part of this family, and we could not have got through this without the unity shown during this unprecedented period.”
