UHDB marks Remembrance Day 2022

On Friday 11 November 2022, colleagues at the Trust gathered to mark Remembrance Day. Some colleagues held local services within their departments to pay their respects with patients and two services were held at Royal Derby Hospital and Queen’s Hospital Burton – coordinated by our Armed Forces Staff Network.

This concluded a week of activities at the Trust to mark the occasion, including ward decorations, events and poppy appeals for the Royal British Legion.

At Queen’s Hospital Burton, Lead Chaplain Alison Thorp led a service alongside Sharon Martin, Chief Operating Officer, Roger McBroom, Head of Patient Access and Administration, and Christ Upton, Deputy Chair of the Armed Forces Network.

During the services, colleagues shared readings and poetry reflecting on the importance of commemorating Remembrance Day and the sacrifices made by those who have served.  QHB Remembrance Day service

Lt Jon Legg from the Derbyshire Army Cadet Force was present and in uniform at Royal Derby Hospital to take part in the commemoration and lay a wreath on site.

Before the two minutes silence, army veteran Tony Thomas – a Catering Stores Driver at UHDB – and Hospital Band member Pete Randle played the Last Post to commemorate the occasion at QHB and RDH respectively.

Thank you to all #TeamUHDB colleagues, patients, and members of the public who have donated to the RBL Poppy Appeal at our sites leading up to Remembrance Day – the ‘Royal British Legion Riders’ collected for the Poppy Appeal at our Derby and Burton sites and over just two days in October, raised over £5,000.
