UHDB's Digital Services nationally celebrated for roll-out saving 3,000 clinical hours each month

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton's (UHDB) Digital Services team has been recognised by leading digital identity company Imprivata, for their work saving 3,000 hours of clinician's time each month with the Enterprise Identity and Access Management installation.
Healthcare organisations across the UK and Ireland were honoured at the 10th annual Imprivata HealthCon Awards in Manchester, where the UHDB IT Services team were presented with the top prize in the 'Customer Excellence Impact' category for their Identity Management solution rollout across the Trust.
UHDB have collaborated with Imprivata to deliver their single sign-on solution that allows colleagues to access rooms across the Trust and several clinical systems with a single smart card, rather than manually entering their username and password each time. This means clinicians now have faster access to digital systems, allowing more time for direct patient care.
Following the success of the project, UHDB's Digital Services team have been sharing their story with other local Trusts.
Lee Sanders, Head of IT Technical Services at UHDB said: “This award recognises the exceptional work that our digital and clinical teams have achieved over the last year. Through partnership working the successful deployment of our Identity Management solution has delivered real impact across the organisation. It has saved time, improved data security and freed up our clinicians to prioritise and focus on patient care.”
"The solution was deployed to approximately 10,000 clinical colleagues over a nine-month period and was used for 950,000 device logins and 450,000 application logins per month. It is estimated that these numbers equate to around 3000 hours of clinicians time each month."
A spokesperson from Imprivata said: "UHDB totally transformed their Enterprise Identity and Access Management installation over the course of the last 12 months. The UHDB IT team worked closely with Imprivata Professional Services and clinical colleagues across the hospital with the result that Imprivata’s solution is used widely throughout the organisation, authenticating users more than 1m times per month."
Debbie Loke, Executive Chief Digital Information Officer at UHDB, oversees the delivery of digital programmes across the Trust. " This is a huge step forward in our journey to make it easier for our staff to do the right thing for the patients we serve, by reducing the time spent on unnecessary tasks such as logging into different IT solutions. We have a clear vision to 'enhance patient experience through a digital first approach,' and this award win underpins the way the teams at UHDB are making that a reality"
Dr Nitin Kolhe, Deputy Medical Director for Digital and Data, and Chief Clinical Information Officer at UHDB said: "At the heart of everything we do is an ongoing desire to provide the best possible care for our patients. This installation means clinicians can now spend more time caring for their patients. I am hugely proud of what has been accomplished and to be recognised in this way is testament to the hard work that has taken place."
