Ward 2 LRCH shortlisted for HSJ Patient Safety Award

Ward 2

Ward 2 at London Road Community Hospital has been shortlisted for the HSJ Patient Safety Awards for the End of Life Care Initiative of the Year award.

The award recognises those who have employed consistently safe, effective and personalised palliative care to patients.

Ward 2 opened in January 2020 and has since gone above and beyond to provide exceptional care to those receiving End of Life care, even throughout a pandemic.

Dawn Wilkinson, Senior Sister on ward 2, was honoured that the ward had been recognised for their efforts. She said: "I am so proud of the team on Ward 2.

"Being shortlisted for this award is a huge achievement and testament to their commitment and passion to deliver excellence in End Of Life care and ensure we get it right the first time."

Ward 2 were shortlisted for adapting elements of care to suit patient needs. For example, initiating safe-making syringe drivers for patients to improve symptom control and wearing alternative PPE, to aid patient experience whilst making a positive financial impact on the wider Trust.

Saran Walters, Trainee Nursing Associate, said: “We are so proud of all that we have achieved in such a short period of time.

“We have such a great team, atmosphere and management. I started my training in March 2020 and I couldn't have done it without the support from every single member of staff. It really is home away from home. ”

The next stage of the award is a presentation to a judging panel, which will take place remotely on Tuesday, 27 July.

Winners will be announced at an award ceremony on Monday, 20 September – more information will be announced nearer to this date.
