We're recruiting for Emergency Department Nurses!

nurses discussing job

Team UHDB have an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and hardworking Registered Nurse's to work within our Emergency Department at Queen’s Hospital Burton.

The Emergency Department at Queens Hospital Burton is a busy ED, seeing on average 130,000 patients per year.

Jodie in PPEJodie Preston is a qualified A&E Nurse working within the department. Jodie explains how she settled in to her new career at UHDB just over two years ago with the help of her friendly team and what advice she would give to nurses looking for an exciting new opportunity working in A&E.

“As an A&E Nurse I am on hand to work within the Emergency Department in Burton, delivering high standards of nursing care, within a very busy department.

What I love most about my job is working as a nurse in emergency care within a dedicated team who help others in need – not just the patients but we help each other as well. Every day is different, and I get to look after new people and experience new challenges every single day. Nursing is such a rewarding job, and every day I go home feeling I have helped somebody in some way – no matter how big or small.

Starting as a newly qualified nurse is not an easy transition and it can be really difficult, but I found the Trust’s Preceptorship Programme helped me massively – the Practice Learning Support Unit Team was so supportive.

As an A&E Nurse, you are often the first point of contact for patients seeking care and treatment. This means you should be ready to deal with whatever the world can throw at you.Jodie in PPE

Working through the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic has been tough, but as a team I am so proud of what we achieved together – we are genuinely like one big family. There is so much in place throughout the department to help support our health and wellbeing; we have Wellbeing Champions to encourage us to look after ourselves and Speak Up Champions who we can raise any concerns to as well as many other supportive programmes that are put in place.

My advice for any new starter looking to start a new role in the A&E Department would be to go for it! Make sure to take each shift day by day, knowing that every day you will build confidence and new skills. You have to be patient with yourself and realise it’s still a learning curve. You shouldn’t be put off by the unexpected in the A&E Department; there is so much support around you to help you develop and grow.”
