Fire service joins forces with Pride Pharmacy to deliver vital medication
Firefighters, Community Support Officers and Support staff from across Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service have joined forces with Pride Pharmacy to deliver urgent prescriptions to University Hospitals of Derby and Burton patients during the Covid-19 pandemic.
This new partnership and delivery service will allow Pride Pharmacy to assist a further 100 patients weekly in receiving their medications at home, ultimately supporting patients to follow the national social distancing guidelines and prevent unnecessary trips to the hospital.
Matthew Prior, Superintendent Pharmacist for Pride Pharmacy says “We are delighted to announce this new partnership with the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service. This will allow hundreds more patients across Derbyshire to have their critical medication delivered directly to them whilst they are shielding or isolating at home.
“We are grateful for the support of Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service in helping maintain the supply of important medicines to our vulnerable patients during the pandemic.”
Councillor Kevin Buttery, Chair of Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Authority said: “This Initiative is the latest addition to the work the Service is undertaking to support the community response to Covid-19, showing we are Ready, Willing and Able to support our communities and partners whilst still providing an effective emergency response.
“I’m really proud of the work being undertaken by the Service. Not since wartime have communities had to pull together in such a way and all of the work taking place by all of the agencies working to respond to the pandemic, really does underline that we are all Making Derbyshire Safer Together.”
Pride Pharmacy opened its doors at Royal Derby Hospital at the start of February and is one of the busiest pharmacies in the region, dispensing around 10,000 outpatient prescriptions every month.
